Princess Anna Sapieha Jabłonowska School nº 2 Bialystok, Poland

II Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Księżnej Anny z Sapiehów Jabłonowskiej (Princess Anna Sapieha Jabłonowska Secondary School no. 2) in Bialystok is a part of the General School Complex no. 2 in Bialystok. It is a public  co-educational school located in a city environment. The school has about 1000 students and employs about 130 teachers (80% of whom are full-time employers). The school is the best school in the region and takes 32nd position among all high schools in Poland. Our scope is academic. Our students are science and mathematics oriented in majority and very determined to achieve good results and enrol into a good university. The school encompasses also a small International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme cohort (about 30 students each year). The environment of the school, although of a city character, does not offer our graduates that many possibilities. Though Bialystok is the biggest city in the region, it still seeks chances to develop. We have also many students who do not live in the city and commute to school from smaller cities and villages around. In a consequence, our school community is varied in terms of religious and cultural background as well as financial standing. Bialystok is located in the north-east of the country close o the Lithuanian and Belarusian border which makes the roots of the people very mixed. Historically, the region was also varied in terms of Jewish and Muslim community and the remains of those traits still can be found in our heritage.
