Desciption
The present intellectual output n.º 3 consists of serious games to be used in the environment of a class for engaging pupils with a discipline and inclusion behaviour. The serious games are coordinated by the teachers at class level.
The games consist of short activities of 5-10 minutes that can be implemented during the class to increase an inclusiveness and tolerance environment. Additionally, some of the games identify routines and behaviours from pupils’ parents that need to be addressed in order to create an inclusive perspective from the students’ home.
The final objective of this training is to lead to ‘cultural matches’ among pupils and their parents.
Some of the topics to deal with are the following:
– Review and understanding of different manifestations of racism, xenophobia and discrimination against migrants and understand their impact.
– Identify different responses to racism, xenophobia and discrimination against migrants, including positive action, awareness-raising, monitoring and reporting and com-munity liaison and engagement.
– To enhance families’ understanding of multifaceted relations between migration and education.
– Understanding of the role that education plays in the integration of migrant children and youth
– To present, explore and reflect on various types of support to migrant pupils in the area of education, including relations with the local community and parents.
The serious games are created according to the FAIR SCHOOL inclusive methodology and related schemes (developed via the intellectual output n.º 1). All these training materials are developed in the format of open educational resources (OER).
Work Plan
This intellectual output is developed in the framework of the Work Package (WP) n.º 3 through the following main tasks:
– Define in detail the serious games that could be used at a class environment as well as with pupils’ parents; selection of game formats, methodology, duration, means, activities, etc.
– Development of the serious games e.g., development of a set of games with different formats and contents based on the requirements previously identified
– Elaboration of guides for teachers implementing serious games with their scholars e.g., guidelines for the involvement of pupils’ parents
– Validation of the serious games amongst secondary scholars e.g., the teachers are anticipated to monitor this implementation to test the acceptance of the game by the students
– Final modifications of the serious games e.g., implementation of the feedback gathered from teachers and pupils.
